Hands to Work and Hearts to God

About the Shawl Ministry: Shawl Ministry members either crochet or knit items that are given to various organizations. (If you would like to learn, we will teach you!)

ALL those interested (women & men) are invited to join us in our sixth year. We meet on the second Sunday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 pm for a simple worship service and business meeting in the Chapel. New patterns are distributed almost every month for inspiration! Items made during the preceding month are presented and a Prayer Circle follows.

Current Projects include:

  • SHAWLS gifted to members and friends of our church in need of comfort. (Each knitter is praying for blessings for the receiver while working.)   Members are urged to notify us if there is someone who needs a Prayer Shawl. Call the office or leave a note in our box near the kitchen.

  • LAPGHANS and BLANKETS donated to the Children’s Center of Antelope Valley.

  • SCARVES for new members of our church and presented when joining. Baptism blankets are also presented to babies when baptized.

  • CHILD-SIZE PRAYER SHAWLS for the pre-school childrens' graduation ceremonies each year.

Other projects over the last five years included:

  • Mini-prayer shawls for service members serving in Afghanistan

  • Slippers, sweaters, and hats for New Orleans through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)

  • Preemie hats for Save the Children project, and

  • Wool hats for Iowa flood/hurricane folks who lost homes and everything in them

THANK YOU to those who so generously donate yarn to us.  Please know we appreciate your donations!
